Radon Gas in Florida

Info About Radon

Present Everywhere

Just like mold, radon gas exists in every environment, even the one you're reading this in right now. It becomes a concern when the gas gets trapped and builds up over time.

Unit of Measure

The EPA states that 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter of air) is the threshold for radon levels. Below 4 is considered safe and above 4 is considered elevated and should be addressed.

Causes of Radon

Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the natural decay of uranium in soil, rocks, water, and some building materials. It is odorless, tasteless, and invisible.

Health Effects

Studies conducted by organizations such as the EPA, National Cancer Institute, and the National Academy of Sciences support the potential negative health effects of long term exposure.

How do we test for radon?

AirCat Monitor

Our team is licensed by the state of Florida and uses an Breeze Continuous Monitor. It is more accurate than over the counter test kits that can be found at home improvement stores.

Placement in the Home

The Breeze monitor is placed in the home and collects readings for 48-72 hours. The home must be kept in “closed” condition to ensure the most accurate reading.

RadaLink Upload

After sitting in the home for 48-72 hours, the readings are electronically sent to PriorityLab which is an industry leader in environmental testing.

Detailed Report

PriorityLab produces a detailed report within 24-48 hours of receiving the data. It documents the radon level in the home and PriorityLab has support staff available for questions and guidance.

Did you know that long-term exposure to radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer and lung cancer deaths in the US, behind smoking? See information on Florida Health.
